Stop booking onboarding calls
1 min read
Most onboarding calls follow the same script: say hello, share your screen, click through the portal, answer two questions that you answered last week too. The hello matters. The clicking doesn't need you live.
Split the call in two
- Record the screen-share part once: logging in, where things live, how to send you files.
- Send it before the call, or instead of it, with a short personal note.
- Keep a 15-minute call for the questions that are actually about their project.
It still feels personal
Clients don't miss watching you hunt for a menu. They care that you're responsive and that things are clear. A tidy recording with zooms on the right buttons reads as more professional than a live call where the Wi-Fi drops.
Update it when the process changes
When your portal changes, fix the recording instead of re-explaining it. Rewrite the line that's out of date and re-voice it, or record that step again. Every client after that gets the current version.
Try it with your next new client. If they still want the call, you've lost nothing. Most won't.
